Hypnosis for Memory Improvement Are you finding as you get older that your memory is getting worse? Having problems remembering, simple things like what you had for dinner last night or even a colleague’s name. I bet you remember what you were doing when something significant happened in the world, such as the bomb attacks on New York and London. The reason you remember at those times is because you are in a state of heightened awareness. Did you find yourself glued to the television or listening with rapt attention to the radio? Did the time go by quickly or appear to go very slowly? That state you were experiencing was a natural trance state. I bet you noticed that you were certainly not asleep and were consciously and unconsciously taking in every word and image and sound that you heard. This is exactly what happens when you are in a state of hypnosis. All hypnosis is self hypnosis; the hypnotherapist just guides you into deeper states and makes positive suggestions to your unconscious mind. So how can hypnosis and hypnotherapy improve your memory? To recall something properly we do need to concentrate. When you take an exam you are fully concentrating on the material you are being tested on. If you do not concentrate on it the chances are that you will fail. The subconscious mind likes to recall things in images, think back to the old saying “a picture paints a thousand words” more can be conveyed in a picture than in lines of text and we do not remember lines of text, if we do it would be an image of the text. The first thing you will need to be to recall information, names, places etc is to be relaxed. Hypnosis puts you instantly into a state of relaxation. Just take a minute now to remember the last time you felt really relaxed. See what you saw, hear what you heard and feel what you felt. That’s right, you are beginning to feel relaxed already just by reading this article. Now when we are relaxed we can concentrate on what we need to concentrate on. The harder we have to try to remember something the more difficult it becomes, so being relaxed allows us to concentrate fully in the moment. How many times have you said “my memory's getting worse” or I’ve got the world’s worst memory”? Every time you say this you are hypnotising your self into believing it. Negative self talk is very powerful self hypnosis. So what we need to do is start reversing that talk and turn it into something positive. This is where hypnosis and self hypnosis as taught to you by your hypnotherapist becomes very powerful. In a trance state positive suggestions are made to your unconscious mind that you have a very good memory and just how easy it is to access these memories. How useful would this be if you are about to take exams or have a big speech to deliver or need to learn a foreign language. To find out more please please call 01296 393450 |
